Year 9 Darwin: Collaborative Chapter 8 Glossary:
 
Ping: a ping command sends a packet from one ip address to another to test the network (Also known to test end to end connectivity)
Fibre optic: a small cable made of glass or plastic and is as thin as a human hair. (it has no limit to the bandwidth!- only limited to the speed of the devices at each end of the cable itself)
Implement:To put something in place, make it happen.
Incurring: When something is brought on, i.e. Dan incurred a fine for parking his car in the wrong place.
Eliminate: to take some thing out or to terminate it
Interface: The communication between each computers
Redundancy: A message being sent to a host and then being sent back
Factors: important parts of something
UTP: Unshielded twisted pair!
Ethernet:a wire that conects to a server that then connects to an internet
VolP: it uses packet switching technology (advantage i think =S) 
Topology: A map of a network, for example a ring
Hub: A Layer 1 device that has a star topology (Similar to a switch, but does not segment the network.)
Switch:
ICMP: is used by devices on a network to send and control messages =) (i think)
TCP/IP: transmition control protocol, a prorocol used to transport data on the internet and locan
Client/Server network:
Coaxial: A cable surrounded by heavy shielding used to connect computers in a network
Backoff period: ??? 
DHCP: Assigns IP addresses to a client in a large network
