In todays warfare they use guns and in Greek warfare they use shields bows and arrow they also used spears. They would use the shields at the front of the lines for protection. They would try to get the spears to go between the shields to kill the enemies. The battles were short bloods and brutal they would take many lives and they would fight on open battle field.
Now they don't have the wars on open Battle fields in today's warfare they now have battleship woods and they don't use shields and they use bullet proof armor in Greek warfare they used Chain-mail and metal helmets
Hoplite phalan warfare that consisted of foot solders using spear and shields traveling in squares and rectangles and charge into each other
Until an opening opens up in the other army when they broke the lines it would brake the chain of command between the commanders and the soldiers. The battle field would be flat wide open spaces battles were short blood and brutal
